Artist statement: This artwork is inspired by the Swedish artist Yrjo Edelmann. It is a hyper realistic painting of a poorly wrapped gift. I wrapped the gift and took many photos of it from different angles and then picked the most effective to paint. This is my first time using oil paint and I learned a lot from it. I started with a plain base and built up details using the dry brush technique to blend in the shadows and details. The process was enjoyable, especially seeing how the light interacted with the surface of the paper and then replicating these colours in the painting.
