Artist statement: My piece Still Life with Kettle and Oranges was painted with acrylics on a wooden canvas. The shiny surface of the kettle allows the oranges of the fruit and external colours (such as the lighting) to reflect against the surface. The objects are lit on one side, creating stark shadows and highlights, especially on and under the kettle. The production of my artwork was heavily inspired by Paul Gauguin’s post-impressionist piece Still Life with Teapot and Fruit.
