Artist statement: My work explores the dynamic relationship between the natural and the man-made. This dichotomy can reflect both physical and spiritual journeys. In the tradition of the Romantic painters, I have observed the incidental details in nature such as the textured highlights in the ocean, the moody clouds in the sky and a bursting sunset. The contrast between the colours, warm and cool, and the times the paintings were based on, dawn and dusk, distinguish the emotional qualities of the landscape, reflecting an intimate connection to nature in which the imagery is imbued with a deeper spiritual meaning.
