Artist statement: This semester I was asked to explore different mixed media techniques on paper to create a range of eye studies that revealed emotions, visual experiences and reflected meaningful messages about life. I studied the reflective drawings of M C Escher in particular his ‘Eye 1946’ and the expressive portrait drawing techniques of French artist Florian Nicolle. My final studio work attempts to redirect the inner happiness and joy felt personally when looking down the shoreline of Rockingham Beach at sunrise on New Year’s Day. I enjoyed exploring the effect that the multiple layers of media had on my artwork.
