Artist statement: This piece was inspired by the works of Yrjo Edelmann, an oil painter who specialises in painting hyper realistic wrapped packages. His work obscures the lines of reality. One of the crucial processes in creating artworks like Edelmann’s is the use of a photographic reference image. Through careful media experiments eventually a composition arises. Oil painting is a medium I thought I’d never fully utilise, but I am glad to have experimented and the result is an image I am truly proud of.
