Artist statement: ‘The Cost Of War’ is a reinterpretation of propaganda posters in order to make a statement about war profiteering. The purpose is to turn propaganda on its head and shine a light on the reality of war in contrast to the glamorised version we see. This idea is symbolised by the soldier bleeding out while trying to surrender, surrounded by discarded money. The use of lino printing in this case reflects its history as a cheap and efficient way to mass produce and share ideas, especially those centred on political beliefs. My ideas and expressive linear style have been influenced by the work of the German Expressionists.
