Artist statement: Inspired by the way light interacts with various surfaces, I decided to create an artwork that explored light with the added challenge of the texture of an animal. Whales have a fascinating range of textures on their skin and illustrating that with the light was one of the more rewarding parts of this artwork. Using the pointillism technique meant the light had a whimsical feeling as it interacted with the whale.
