Artist statement: The photographs I created are a response to the theme ‘The Body’. I drew inspiration from Miguel Ribeiro’s medical photographs. His images make me cringe and feel uncomfortable, which is the response I wanted to create in my series, but I wanted them to look beautiful at the same time. My model was lean and tall, making it easier to define the skeletal structures in his back. In postproduction, I removed certain features of the body to create more of an abstract shape and changed the work to black and white to emphasise the backbone. The strong use of negative space in the composition further emphasised the organic nature of these representations of the body.
