Artist statement: Much of my artwork is a blend of sketches and wild imagination that symbolise chaos, life and death, and which inspire me – imagery originating from the traditional period to contemporary pop culture in modern Japanese society. I’ve tried to take on ideas from Japanese contemporary art such as cartoons to modern living objects. Flowers, pandas and unidentified objects are included as bright and happy living objects. I also included skulls with koi fish moustaches and flames to create the atmosphere of a WWII scene where soldiers have died. My work explores the world of Japan where life and death occur side by side.
