Artist statement: My watercolour painting is based on a photograph I took of a close friend. It was an unplanned photo which clearly exhibits someone with whom I have a personal connection, in the context of their daily life. As exams and assessments begin to take a larger role in our lives as high school students, many of my peers spend weekends studying at the state library, where the photograph was taken. Painting a subject with whom I have a personal connection allowed more expression with the composition. Watercolour was my chosen medium as I could explore fluid strokes and water marks in contrast with smaller, compact lines.
