My painting Mortality was influenced by the strong tonal work of the old masters and the brushwork used by Van Gogh, who we looked at for our investigation task. My skull image came from our work on Memento Mori. We set up in the studio and took photos of related symbolic objects but was attracted very much to the most direct reminder of mortality.
