I painted my Oma (grandma) using acrylic and oil paints on canvas. Her playful essence creates a sense of timeless youth, which I expressed through the vibrant use of colours against blue. My Oma has always been silly and risk-taking, helping me loosen up. I enhanced her youthfulness by emphasising the brushstrokes in her hair, giving it a wild and free impression. Since my grandpa recently passed away, witnessing my Oma’s grief inspired me to portray her in a way that reconnects her with her joyful essence. Through this painting, I hoped to reflect back to her the happiness that still lives within her, gently reminding her of her playful and light-hearted self.
