This portrait in oil paint is a study of sunlight on a face. I focused on the side that had the most light reflecting off it, layering the paint thickly to create a textured effect. The image looks realistic from a distance but close up you can see how paint has been applied. I aimed to capture the effect of sunlight on human skin so I exaggerated the colours. I also chose darker colours on the outside of the painting to emphasise the lightness of the cheeks and the reflections in the eyes.
