Artist statement: My artwork has been influenced by my love of dolphins. The joyous image of three dolphins leaping out of the ocean in unison is altered here as they are made entirely out of the type of plastics that gets used once and then thrown away, often ending up in our oceans. The multiple pieces of coloured plastic inside the dolphins represent how they are affected in a food chain where many smaller sea creatures mistake these bright coloured pieces of plastic as food and die as a result. I want my artwork to raise awareness to the plight of our ocean’s creatures should humans continue its obsession with plastic and its”use it once and throw it away” culture.
