Artist statement: Emma explores security in the identity of oneself. The meaning of the work is to express that it is acceptable to combat societal views and traditionalisms. Identity is established by the very “expressions” that are said to be its results. The photograph features a woman with an intense, attention-gripping gaze, of which encourages a strong human relationship between the viewer and the subject. The woman may also be observed in tears of desperation as she pleads with you to understand her as an individual that is comfortable within her own identity.
