Artist statement: My painting depicts a protest against job cuts, where people are forced into unemployment and then struggle to find work to support their families. This painting means a lot to me because it sends a powerful message about people who protest or rally for things that they believe in. I was influenced by Australian artist George Gittoes in the application of broad brushstrokes to create highly textured shapes and forms. This was a fun and challenging composition for me to paint.
