Artist statement: My metaphysical drawing is influenced by Giorgio De Chirico’s style of creating strange, dream-like landscapes. ‘Lost City’ is an exploration of scale and atmosphere. I have enlarged the snake to make the buildings seem smaller in comparison, and have used a strong light source to create long shadows. Cross-hatching creates tone and a sense of three-dimensionality. I also used a tortillon to blend out the sphere. The green of the snake’s eyes creates a focal point and adds a sense of mystery.
