When Did You Decide?

Artist statement: My work is inspired by the artist and designer, Shepard Fairey. I have attempted to replicate his iconic graphic style using solid blocks of colour and a limited range of colours. The three pieces are specifically inspired by Fairey’s We the People posters. His posters address Donald Trump’s inauguration while my posters are about rude questions LGBT+ people are often asked – questions such as “Are you sure?”, “When did you decide?” and “Are you a boy or a girl?”. The figures depicted have an unimpressed expression as if they receive these kinds of questions over and over again. Creating these works digitally suited the message. I photographed friends and drew them in the style of Shepard Fairey on my laptop using the Sketchbook Pro program and a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet. I also added text using Adobe InDesign.
