Artist statement: My artwork shares the nostalgia of my childhood. I grew up on a large bushland property on the border of the wheatbelt, and with the space came an immense amount of freedom. My childhood was spent exploring, building treehouses, playing in creeks, picking plums and catching grasshoppers with my brother. I really wanted my piece to link to a specific sense of place, paying homage to my old house. With this in mind I chose to incorporate both a ‘river’ in the form of the blue shape through the middle, as well as the topographic contour lines running through the background. The seemingly random collection of objects and flora depicted hold a special significance to me, all playing parts in the person I have become.
