Artist statement: My artwork titled Jet is inspired by Australian artist Catherine Jenna Hendry, commonly known as CJ Hendry. Hendry is a contemporary artist based in New York, known for her hyper-realistic, large-scale renderings of luxury objects using a self-developed scribbling technique. I chose Hendry’s work as inspiration in order to challenge myself to use a new method and create a larger-scale work. The technique I used is called stippling – the creation of a pattern simulating varying degrees of solidity or shading by using small dots. I did a lot of research on this technque before applying it to my final composition. I explored texture in the fur by layering the dots and experimenting with contrasts between dark and lighter dotted areas.
