This artwork is a self-portrait inspired by a candid photograph. I began by taking a series of photographs of myself, aiming to capture a natural and genuine expression rather than a staged pose. Working from a candid image allowed me to create a portrait that feels more authentic and reflects my personality. I started this painting with a brown wash and a sketch of my face done in oil paint a similar colour to the wash. I painted over the sketch with colour before adding texture to the clothing. I painted the background behind be and then added stray hairs and the fur coming off the sides of the jacket. My goal for this painting was to make it as accurate to how I look as possible. I wanted people to recognise the person in the painting.
