Home Shouldn’t Hurt confronts the issue of gendered violence against women, inviting viewers to feel both discomfort and empathy; to raise awareness of gendered violence and the extent it can damage lives and silence voices.
This three dimensionally layered work began as a lino print, chosen for its raw gestural qualities. Oil on Canvas provides symbolic and visual realism. A sheer piece of fabric, mirroring the base image, is suspended over the work deliberately chosen as it subtly blurs and distorts the contours beneath and compels viewers to look deeper, to question what is hidden or disguised.
