My piece, Roadtrip (Through an Australian Landscape) was inspired by my experience driving from Sydney to Perth in December 2025. The painting is based on a photo I took during the drive as we were coming off the Nullarbor Plain. I tried to emulate a midpoint between realism and impressionism, invoking a memory-like state and adhering to a strict, muted colour palette.
My intent was initially to capture themes of isolation through an empty expanse, but also to evoke the beauty of an unaltered landscape unmarred by human interference. I attempted to create the work in such a way that viewers were able to draw their own individual conclusions about the piece, allowing it to resonate with a broader audience.
