My artwork, Flock of the Night, explores the isolation and depression many students experience through the relentless cycle of schoolwork. Inspired by my own experiences, it shows how stepping beyond your comfort zone can lead to meaningful friendships that bring hope and joy. Influenced by Michelle Cheng’s animations, I use a mood-based colour palette that shifts from stark greyscale to vibrant colour as new characters appear, symbolising the transition from loneliness to connection. Birds represent hope, freedom and escape, while the other animals reflect my friends’ unique personalities. The artwork encourages students who feel isolated to seek connection and remember that brighter moments can be found beyond the pressures of school.
