As I move through my final year of high school and get increasingly closer to adulthood every day, the fears and uncertainty of growing up become more and more relevant to my life. These growing worries of what my life will look like after school and my 18th birthday are what inspired me to look back on the idea of childhood. Childhood as a time I believe perfectly encapsulates feelings of pure innocence, joy and curiosity which my aim was to express in my pieces in order to encourage viewers to reminisce on their own childhood, not in a way of sadness that it’s over, but joy for the fortune they had to experience it. My focus for ‘Small Babushka’ was innate, childlike curiosity particularly around ideas of growth.
