Pursuing success is often tied to societal expectations, leaving many questioning its true meaning. As I face Year 12 and looming Uni applications, I reflect on the relentless “race” toward success. ‘Late for the Race’ explores the anxiety of feeling behind in a competition driven by grades and achievements. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, I portray myself as the White Rabbit—symbolising haste and pressure. The ill-fitting suit and bare feet reflect youth’s unpreparedness, while motifs like tea, report cards, and chess pieces highlight chaos and societal control. Warped clocks and a high-angle view emphasise vulnerability and time pressure. I urge a redefinition of success—one that values self-discovery over premature responsibility.
