Self-Avatar’ is a contemporary artwork that encompasses the Japanese style of art known as Manga. Being an avid fan of Manga comics has helped shape my artistic abilities. For this brief we were asked to create a self-avatar – ourselves as cartoons. I wanted to not only reflect Manga styling but also to make sure I was visual in the final piece. ‘Self-Avatar’ was created using a design process. The final design solution was created in Adobe Photoshop, using a variety of skills and techniques. The piece was executed using a wacom graphics tablet, a skill I have been developing over the last few years. Instead of creating a two-dimensional piece, I employed skills such as layering, opacity and blur.
