This artwork, inspired by ‘Keeping up Appearances’, makes commentary on the exhaustion and uselessness of attempting to be part of a society which is hostile to your existence. I have been influenced by the apocalyptic imagery and surrealist-horror landscapes in artist Dariusz Zawaszki’s work and have used heavy texture and space to create an intense and domineering atmosphere. Zdzislaw Beksinski inspired my colour palette of orange, purple, red and blue. I have deliberately selected certain colours to create contrast between the figures and the vast environment in order to enhance the idea of isolation.
